Gulf Coast braces for potential tropical system impact
The threat of a tropical system impacting parts of the Gulf Coast is increasing. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Invest 97L, which is organizing in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Conditions are conducive for further organization, and the area has an 80% chance of development.
Forecasters say potential tropical system could enter the gulf next week
Should the system develop, forecasters said a tropical depression could form as the system moves slowly to the north or northwest into the southern Gulf of Mexico through the end of next week. Rodney Wynn, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Tampa office, said forecasting models don’t have a good grip on the system yet.
