Fran Alonso is out as the head coach of the Houston Dash after more than three months away from the team. The parties agreed to part ways instead of Alonso returning to the team, the Dash announced on Tuesday.

The Houston Dash have parted ways with head coach Fran Alonso, ending a three-month saga that has seen Alonso absent from all team activities. The Dash said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision came "in lieu of a return from his leave of absence."

Fran Alonso, hired in February, had been away from team since late June for undisclosed reasons. Ricky Clarke will remain as interim.

The Houston Dash have parted ways with head coach Fran Alonso three months after his disappearance from the sidelines, the club announced on Tuesday. Alonso has not coached a match for the Dash since June 22.

Alonso was hired on Dec. 22, 2023, after managing Scotland's Celtic (2020-23) and England's Lewes (2018-19). Liverpool manager Arne Slot expects Diogo Jota to feature in their Champions League clash with Serie A side Bologna at Anfield, despite the Portuguese forward's absence from training on Tuesday.

Fran Alonso and American side Houston Dash have parted company, just ten months after the former Celtic FC Women manager left Celtic to take the manager’s job at the National Women’s Soccer League side. Houston have only recorded four wins this year, with five draws and 13 defeats and currently are bottom of the table.
