A 314-pound baby elephant is the newest addition to the Houston zoo. According to the zoo, Kirby was born on Friday afternoon, November 15. Her 34-year-old mother, Shanti, was in labor for 19 hours and gave birth in the cow barn at the Texas-based zoo's McNair Asian Elephant Habitat.

The elephant Shanti, 34, gave birth to a 314-pound female baby named Kirby at 3 p.m., according to the Houston Zoo. Zoo officials said she was standing within six minutes, walking 25 minutes later and began nursing within an hour and a half of being born.
