The frontline indices closed down more than 2%, with the Sensex plunging 1,769 points to 82,497 and the Nifty falling 547 points to 25,250.

At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex was at 83,561, down 704 points, or 0.84 per cent, while the Nifty 50 was at 25,565, down 231 points, or 0.9 per cent. That apart, the BSE Sensex closed down 33.49 points or 0.
