Nine homes in the area have been lost to the ocean in the past four years because of rising seas and storms that erode shorelines.

Crews went to work Saturday at Cape Hatteras National Seashore to clean up the debris of a second house that collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean in less than 24 hours, bringing to nine the number of homes toppled by the ocean in recent years.

Yet another house has collapsed in Rodanthe, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This is the second house in as many days to collapse and apparently wash away to sea on the 23000 block of GA Kohler Court.

North Carolina park officials were warning visitors to avoid the beaches of the Outer Banks in Rodanthe this weekend after two houses collapsed into the ocean within hours of each other. In the early hours Friday, an unoccupied house on G.A. Kohler Court collapsed, the National Park Service said in a statement.
