WEBJun 1, 2023 · The NYT hints are oftentimes very bad. The three blue cells form a triple, i.e. the three candidates 1, 3 and 9 are locked in place in these three cells. All other cells within the same 3x3 box cannot be 1, 3 or 9 for that reason. We can therefore eliminate the red candidates. 3. 23K subscribers in the sudoku community.

This takes away the 2 in column3 cell9, and leaves you with only one 2 in the bottom left box. This opens up a few new solves. For this hidden triple, there is an equal and opposite Quad in column three: 1,2,5,9.

WEBJan 21, 2022 · If it is a 1 then a 5 link chain (might be less, I haven't looked carefully) makes R7C4 a 6. If it's a 9 then a 3 link chain makes R2C1 a 6. If you like the NYT puzzles, but are puzzled by their hints, you can use a bookmarklet to open a puzzle from their site on SudokuExchange instead and get different hints.

WEBJan 3, 2021 · I like to play regular Sudoku with automatic pencil marks. Makes easy puzzles like NYT Easy trivial, just filling in the singles, under 40 seconds. Medium and Hard are anywhere from 3-15 minutes, not often longer than that.
